We were commissioned by Siemens to develop three interactive video games for Siemens Process Automation World: Plant Racer DCS Experience, SIMIT Experience and COMOS Pipe Planner. These games are to be available for visitors to choose from at a game station in the PAW. Our main task was to create a digital game hub where players could choose a game. It was particularly important to ensure that the connection of each game to real Siemens software is established and that this connection is immediately recognizable to the user. Our focus was on game development and 3D visualizations to create an immersive experience.
Animation of people and screens within the application
To create a link between the games and the real Siemens software, we have developed a graphic that clearly shows the various areas of the Siemens process industry. Visitors to PAW generally have an affinity with the industry and can therefore immediately identify with the areas shown. As not every area has an interaction, we have slightly toned down the non-interactive areas visually and provided the interactive areas with a game controller as an indicator. The 3D visualizations were created in Blender and adapted to the illustrative Siemens look with the help of flat shaders. Vector-based diagrams and infographics were created on all displays within the graphic and animated in After Effects. In addition, people were animated in Blender and placed in the world so that they interact with their environment. The game development was created in the game engine Unity.
An interactive game hub that gives the user a good overview and allows them to quickly access the game of their choice. Once the player has selected a game, an overlay slides into the visible area and the camera moves closer to the area in the graphic. A trailer and a description of the game are displayed in the overlay. The user has the option of starting the game or returning to the overview.
