RiCo US-Parts packing list tool
The challenge
To make it easier for employees at the RiCo US Parts Shop to pack and ship orders, we were tasked with developing a web application for the shipping process using efficient handheld scanners. The packing list tool enables employees to record the items in an order using the scanner and then prepare them quickly and easily for shipping. This is intended to replace the previous manual process, in which individual orders had to be laboriously updated in a separate system.
The realization
The first step was a comprehensive design phase of the web application and all its functions. The packing list tool was visualized using wireframes and used for joint usability tests to ensure that the employees of the RiCo US Parts Shop could use the tool intuitively. Based on the design guidelines, a comprehensive high-fidelity prototype was then developed that depicts the individual views of the application. This can be used on the hand scanner to check and optimize additional aspects of the tool.
The result
The packing list tool was developed using HTML and TailwindCSS and is seamlessly linked to the RiCo US Parts Shop’s inventory management system so that all existing and packable orders can be viewed, filtered and scanned via the handheld scanner screen. Thanks to the intuitive user interface, orders can be completed smoothly – the order is automatically updated and recognizes when an employee scans matching items via a barcode and these match the items in the order. In addition, the web application offers many new practical functions such as the manual addition of items to the order or the automatic printing of a shipping label for fast delivery of the goods.
