Siemens AG commissioned us to develop an interactive application that depicts the innovative Smart Power Management System from Siemens. Smart Power Management helps to ensure the high-performance, uninterrupted, cost-effective and sustainable operation of machines in unreliable grids. Our challenge was to present the functionality and numerous advantages of this innovative system in an understandable way using an interactive animation stage and clear, animated graphs.
Prototyping of the application incl. design of the UI elements
Isometric illustration of machines for various application profiles
Interactive and synchronized graphs
Animation of the profiles
Linking of animations using a state machine
The realization
During the conception phase, various versions of high fidelity prototypes were created, which were gradually expanded to include sophisticated functions. Isometric drawings were created and designed according to Siemens’ specifications in order to illustrate various application scenarios for the Smart Power Management System. These graphics were animated individually and then linked together in a state machine, enabling an interactive application and controllable display.

The result
The interactive application has touch operation and is therefore perfect for use at trade fairs. The realistic data is displayed in appealing graphs, in which detailed figures can be viewed on mouse-over. Smart Power Management enables high-performance and uninterrupted operation, which is easy to recognize in the application thanks to the battery on/off system. Scenarios can be simulated using “Voltage Dip” and “Blackout” functions to show how the system would react in the event of a power failure or interruption. The animated profile machines correspond simultaneously with the displayed graphs and their behavior changes accordingly to the voltage dip or blackout.
